Sanctuary Baines' Camp

Overview

Sanctuary Baines’ Camp is located on a vast private concession bordering the Moremi Game Reserve in Botswana’s Okavango Delta and with its vast and diverse wildlife species is one of the premium destinations in the world for a dynamic safari experience and offers a truly unique wilderness safari in Africa.

An intimate safari camp, Sanctuary Baines’ was named after the 19th century explorer and painter Thomas Baines. This is Sanctuary’s smallest camp with just six suites set on elevated platforms in the tree line with wooden decks that offer expansive views over the permanent water of the Boro River and a lagoon teeming with life. An eco-friendly property, Sanctuary Baines’ Camp was built using only commercially grown wood, with over 150,000 recycled aluminium cans incorporated within the walls to provide insulation.

Highlights

Our Thoughts

A small camp with only five suites, but it packs a big punch. Each of the spacious rooms has a star bath and a sky bed on its private deck, and in addition to the game drives, mokoro cruises and helicopter flights which are all on offer, guests are also able to reserve and enjoy the elephant interaction programme run by sister property Stanleys Camp.

Grab a refreshing drink from the bar and head to the main viewing deck that overlooks the lagoon and the swimming pool, complete with two salas. This part of the Okavango Delta is superb for game viewing and bird watching, which you can even do while you relax in the swimming pool or sip a drink on the deck. But of course you'll explore the area further on guided walking safaris or on morning and afternoon 4X4 game drives - and the fact that Baines' Camp is located in a private concession means that you'll enjoy thrilling night drives as well. For the ultimate safari experience, you will be given the opportunity to spend a day and interact with two semi-habituated elephants as you join them in their daily foraging treks. Baines' Camp also offers a range of seasonal water-based safaris. Excursions by mokoro (dug-out canoes) will give you the opportunity to discover the details of the teeming Okavango Delta environment close up, while motorboat trips will offer you a more exhilarating experience.

Sanctuary Baines' Camp prides itself on its personalised service and this includes your culinary preferences and needs. From delicious dining with spectacular views to sundowners drinks in the middle of the bush - Sanctuary Baines' Camp has so much to offer.

There are six suites set on elevated platforms with wooden decks. Each  suite features a luxury bedroom,  ensuite facilities and private viewing  deck. The four-poster beds are fully  mobile and can easily be wheeled out onto the private wooden deck overlooking the shimmering waters of the Boro River. Each room is equipped with a hairdryer, ceiling fan, in-room safe and minibar
