Zarafa Camp

Overview

Situated in Botswana's private and barely-visited Selinda Reserve and overlooking the remote Zibalianja Lagoon, Zarafa Camp enjoys arguably the best views of any camp in Botswana. Selinda lies between the far northern Linyanti Swamps and the Okavango Delta and boasts a magnificent cast of wildlife that includes all the big cats and major predators, huge elephant and buffalo herds and a wide variety of antelope and other classic African animals. Zibalianja Lagoon is home to high concentrations of hippo and is the only place in Africa where lion are known to hunt these giants with any success. Explore this secluded wilderness on exciting day and night game drives and guided walking safaris. Alternatively, sit back and marvel at passing wildlife from the shaded comfort of your veranda or relax on the pontoon boat that makes trips on the lagoon.

For the ultimate Zarafa experience book the Zarafa Dhow Suites, a lavish, sumptuously furnished two bedrooms tented suite with its own private staff and game viewing vehicle.

Highlights

Our Thoughts

After a name change from the unpronounceable Zibadianja, Zarafa is now one of the most exclusive and finest lodges in Botswana. It can take just eight guests and accommodates them in uber-luxurious vast suites. Right at the top of the price scale, added extras include an open-air gym and the use of a professional camera & lenses for the duration of a guests’ stay, with the resultant photos put onto a DVD for the lucky few to take away.

The main tent consists of a comfortable lounge, small library, bar and elegant dining area and is decorated with antiques, handcrafted furniture and décor reminiscent of a bygone era. The wooden deck has unimpeded views of this part of the Okavango Delta and makes for a great game viewing spot. Enjoy a massage in the privacy of your tent or have a workout in the small outdoor gym. There is also a small curio shop if you want to take home a reminder or two.

All meals at Zarafa Camp are table d'hôte and include a light breakfast at dawn, a filling brunch on return from your morning activities, tea and snacks in the afternoon and a sumptuous three-course meal in the evening. Meals are enjoyed in the dining area accompanied by stunning views or on the deck shaded by giant trees. Other dining venues include scenic spots away from camp and even on a boat out on the lagoon.

Accommodation at Zarafa Camp consists of four marquis-style luxury tents. Each tent boasts a large, thoughtfully decorated lounge area, an expansive shaded veranda and a private plunge pool. These spacious tents have an en suite bathroom with a copper bath plus an indoor and outdoor shower. Extras provided in every room include a digital camera and additional lenses for you to use during your stay as well as a personal bar and even an exercise mat.

Families or two couples travelling together may want to take exclusive use of the Dhow Suites, a private, lavish two bedroom suite complete with ancient Zanzibari doors, copper baths and sumptuous interiors.  A spacious split-level deck, with a swimming pool, overlooks the Zibadianja lagoon while dedicated staff and a private guide look after your every need.
