Serra Cafema

Overview

Serra Cafema Camp is situated under shady trees overlooking the Kunene River in a very wild and remote corner of far-north Namibia. Set between the haunting Skeleton Coast and dramatic Kaokoland, it's one of Southern Africa's last true wilderness areas and a complete respite from the outside world. Serra Cafema provides luxurious comfort in this otherwise inhospitable environment plus many shady decks, quiet corners and magnificent views to inspire you. It's not all peace and tranquillity however - you can keep busy with a number of exciting and unique activities. Explore rolling dune fields by quad bike and 4X4 or take a trip down the Kunene River where the contrast between the fertile river banks and the stark desert landscape will be most evident. The local Himba people, some of the last nomadic people of Africa, frequently visit the camp giving you the chance to learn about their lifestyle and traditions.

Highlights

Our Thoughts

One of the most extraordinary properties in Africa, if not the world. It is miles from anywhere but offers an experience like no other. Set along the river bank, the luxury chalets are a marvel in logistics, with trips out on the quad bikes to visit the local Himba settlements are absolute must. Break your budget and stay here.

Serra Cafema Camp, connected to the chalets by raised wooden walkways, is elevated on wooden decks that extend over the river for maximum views. The Ozoganda (main living area) accommodates an eclectically decorated sitting and library area while the covered dining area extents out onto the deck, as does the River Bar. The expansive wooden deck and the comfortable sunken lounge have spectacular views of the Kunene River as it flows past and the camp also has a swimming pool that offers a cool respite after a day exploring the sun-baked desert.

Delicious meals at Serra Cafema are served in the covered dining area or out on the deck next to the flowing river. For a more private dining experience you can dine on your own veranda in front of your tent .Enjoy picnic lunches at scenic points on your daily outings, and later marvel at the magnificent desert sunsets with a frosted sundowner drink in hand.

Serra Cafema Camp has eight large canvas and thatch tents that hug the banks of the Kunene River but are raised off the ground on wooden platforms. Each of the cool and spacious suites includes a sleeping and sitting area that open onto an expansive wooden deck with a dining area, a hammock and a comfortable bench with breathtaking views of the river. Each tent is equipped with en suite bathroom facilities as well as an additional outdoor shower with excellent views. Honeymooners and romantic safari travellers should book the Honeymoon Villa to guarantee the best views in camp whereas families can be accommodated at Serra Cafema by opening up adjoining units.
