Bartholomeus Klip Farmhouse

Overview

Bartholomeus Klip is a unique hotel, and set on 10000 acres of wheat fields and private nature reserve it is an active sheep and canola farm. At the foot of the spectacular Elandskloof mountain range you will find the beautiful Victorian farmhouse which houses the main hotel and restaurant, and immaculate manicured gardens. Stylishly decorated while still retaining the feel of a cosy cottage, the farmhouse will immediately feel like home.

There are several reception rooms in the main house for relaxing by the fire in the cooler winter months, or during the heat of summer you can venture on to the veranda which wraps around the whole house. The restaurant, of course, serves high tea and you can enjoy lunchtime picnics around the property. Dinner is a more formal affair, and the gourmet cuisine is prepared using as much farm fresh produce as possible, with wines sourced from local estates.

Highlights

Our Thoughts

Less than a 75 minute drive from busy Cape Town you’ll find this pastoral paradise. Wonderful food, beautiful surroundings and within easy distance of all the best vineyards – Bartholomeus Klip is the perfect country escape.

  • Salt-water swimming pool

Head chef Louise Gillet serves up French-influenced cuisine made from fresh local ingredients. Meals are served in the conservatory-style dining room in the main house, and picnics can be arranged around the property. High tea is also a Bartholomeus Klip staple.

There are four en-suite double bedrooms in the main house, along with a separate suite outside with a bedroom, large bathroom and sitting area.

Also available is Wild Olive House, a cottage next to the main farmhouse. It has three bedrooms, two bathrooms and an open plan living area. It can be hired on an exclusive, self-catering basis.

  • Cycling
  • Mountain Biking
  • Water sports on the farm dam
  • Winelands excursions
  • Excursions to the natural fynbos veld
  • Cooking classes

Game drives are available, however the big 5 won’t be found here – instead you will be treated to varied species of buck, wildebeest, buffalo, great bird watching opportunities and a chance to see the quagga that are being bred at the farm (a species that became extinct in 1888, very similar in appearance to zebra but with faded stripes towards the rump area).

Bartholomeus Klip welcomes families, and Wild Olive House is a great option for families with young children as it has two double bedrooms along with a bunkbed room.

The minimum age for dining in the main restaurant for dinner is ten years old, but Wild Olive House has its own dining room and kitchen for a self-catering option. Babysitting can also be arranged for when the adults want to eat in the main restaurant.

Activities are varied and include game and nature drives, cooking lessons and walks on the farm.
