Ruaha River Lodge

Overview

When it comes to building safari lodges, location is everything and very few command as stunning a location at Ruaha River Lodge. Situated on the bend in the river, guests can enjoy watching game coming down to drink throughout the day which is always a great sight to enjoy.

The lodge is a "solid" structure, stone and thatch cottages, which makes it unique in Ruaha and perfect for guests who want to enjoy this wild, unspoilt reserve but don't want to sleep under canvas. The rooms are very spacious and comfortable and have lovely verandas where you can relax during the day with a good book and keep an eye out for the animals as they come down to drink.

The game viewing is what draws visitors to Ruaha and there are plenty of fantastic game viewing areas close to the camp. The vehicles here are designed to give all guests the best possible view and the superb guides will really help to maximise your game viewing experience. Whilst the camp is slightly larger than most in the park, it is superbly located and offers a great game viewing experience so shouldn't be discounted.

Our Thoughts

Although slightly larger than most lodges in Southern Tanzania, Ruaha River Lodge is fantastic for clients who want to enjoy the Ruaha but are of a slightly more nervous disposition and don't want to be out "camping" under canvas. The views out across the river are beautiful and offer the chance for ad-hoc game viewing when you are relaxing in camp in the afternoons. The guiding here is superb and as the camp is family owned there is a friendly and relaxed atmosphere when staying here.

  • Lounge
  • Fire pit

Meal times at Ruaha River Lodge are a real treat, with superb, homely dishes served up in a variety of lovely locations. In the camp the open sided dining area offers a welcome relief from the sunshine and offers the chance for ad-hoc game viewing as animals come down to drink by the river. They also have a secret location where they can set up lunches and sundowner drinks atop the largest kopje in the region - a spectacular spot to enjoy.

Ruaha River Lodge consists of 24 stone and thatched chalets and is the only such camp in Ruaha. The chalets are all very spacious, with large verandas at the front and bathrooms at the rear. All chalets are spread along the river bank so have lovely and views and offer the chance for ad-hoc game viewing.
