Isolated, small and superbly run, Katavi Wildlife Camp has ticks all of the boxes to make this a perfect spot for safari purists. If you are looking for private pools, crystal glasses and champagne then this isn’t the place for you. However if you want to enjoy Tanzania at it's wildest, rawest best, then this is most certainly the place for you.
The tented rooms are spacious, comfortable and well furnished and shaded by a thatched roof meaning they are a great place to escape the sometimes oppressive summer sun in between your game drives. The main part of the camp overlooks the Katuma River and game can be seen coming down to drink throughout the day so you can spot animals even when not on safari.
Of course such an amazing safari location would be nothing without incredible guides to show you around and teach you about what you are seeing and that is what Katavi Wildlife Camp is all about. There is no rush to tick animals off a list here, but your focus is on exploring the bush with your guide, enjoying the unique experience of safaris and game viewing in Katavi.
Camps don't get more off the beaten track than Katavi Wildlife Camp. A long drive through the park from the airstrip to get to the camp is required but you are amply rewarded with incredible game viewing on offer here. When you get to the camp don't expect all of the bells and whistles of other safari camps, this is a simple yet comfortable camp and appeals to guests who want a truly unique and exclusive game viewing experience.
Communal mess tent
The food at Katavi Wildlife camp is very good despite the remote location. The dining area overlooks the Katuma River so is an excellent place for spotting animals as they come down to drink.
The six rooms are Katavi Wildlife Camp are Meru style tents, raised up on their own decking areas with a thatched roof over them to keep the sun off during the day and help keep the rooms cozy in the evenings. The verandas are very popular spots for relaxing during the afternoon with a good book.
Children are welcome from ages two and upwards. Those aged between two and 12 must share with a parent and cannot join walking safaris.
