Nimali Tarangire

Overview

Located on a river bank under the shade of Acacia and Baobab trees, Nimali Tarangire is the park's newest camp and fuses a traditional tented safari camp with more contemporary stylings. The location in the Eastern part of the park means that you have easy access to some of the prime game viewing areas, including the routes of the elephant migration and large groves on Baobab trees where Tarangire's big cats can often be found enjoying the sunshine.

The rooms themselves are tented, but have solid bathrooms at the back so are good for those of a slightly more nervous disposition who want a traditional safari but without going fully tented. They all boast modern furnishings and decor, with lovely open verandas at the front where you can relax during the afternoons.

A variety of activities can be enjoyed from the camp, with morning and afternoon game drives included as standard, but walking safaris, night drives, balloon safaris and visits to a local village all pre-bookable at an extra cost. As it is a small camp (just 6 suites) meals are enjoyed communally, however the staff will try and mix things up offering breakfasts and lunches in the bush as well as dinner under the stars.

This camp could well become the new star in Tarangire - the remote location is ideal for safari enthusiasts looking for great game viewing and a luxury camp.

Our Thoughts

Only open since June 2015, Nimali Tarangire is a bold attempt at fusing a traditional tented safari camp with more modern luxuries that we feel has worked rather well. The location under a grove of Acacia trees means the camp stays cool even in the peak of summer and guests have the luxury of a lovely swimming pool in which to cool off as well. The pool overlooks a busy water hole so is great for ad hoc game viewing. The tented suites but with solid bathrooms appeal to travellers who don't want a full under canvas experience but still want to enjoy the feeling of safaris of old. An excellent camp and one that we are sure will be very popular with visitors considering Tarangire for their safari.

Dining is on a communal basis at Nimali Tarangire, with the focus being on simple yet delicious dishes using locally sourced ingredients. Meals are often served al-fresco in the bush, and there is something magical about enjoying a champagne breakfast having just finished a morning exploring the glorious Tarangire National Park.

Nimali Tarangire is comprised of just 6 spacious suites, all overlooking the bed of the Sand River. Whilst the bedrooms are tented, the bathrooms are of solid construction for peace of mind, with hot running water and flush toilets. The bedrooms are comfortably furnished and have a contemporary feel to them as well as boasting their own verandas looking out onto the river bed which are a perfect spot to relax with a good book in the afternoons.

Game drives included as standard. Night drives, walks, balloon safaris and visits to the local village, as well as fly camping can all be pre-booked.

Owing to the nature of the accommodation, better options for children exist in Tarangire.
