Zanzibar Serena Hotel

Overview

Right on the seafront overlooking the turquoise waters of the Zanzibar Channel, this boutique hotel has been painstakingly restored and sits elegantly amongst landscaped gardens.

Each guestroom is cool and white and focuses on the traditional attributes of Swahili style, ethnic elegance and Arabic opulence. As well as intricately carved fretwork and gauzy fabrics, all of the rooms have a wrought iron balcony, satellite TV and air-conditioning. The pool deck offers unrivalled views of passing dhows and sunsets.

Our Thoughts

Stone Town’s best hotel occupies the best location – right on the waterfront in the heart of the action. The rooms have been designed with an Arabian influence, and those visitors who are not staying additionally on the coast can take advantage of the hotel’s beach club. The insider tip is to ignore the charms of the restaurant and take a short stroll along the alleyways to enjoy the nightly delights of the street food market.

  • Swimming Pool
  • Live music nightly
  • Treatment rooms
  • Four bar and restaurants
  • Baharia Sea-side Restaurant
  • Masahani Bar & Terrace
  • Mdele Coffee Shop
  • Terrace Seafood Restaurant

The rooms at Zanzibar Serena Hotel are a haven for the exhausted. Cool white walls release a sense of calm, teamed with wooden shutters and high ceilings; emulate the clean, rustic Swahili charm. Adorned with arched niches, antique plates and brass lamps; and featuring traditionally carved furniture with basket weave and ceramic inlay, the rooms are predominantly royal blue and white. Four-poster, net draped beds dominate, offset by delicate side tables, vanity units and louver doors giving onto balconies, some of which feature massive free-standing hammocks.
