Conveniently set in the beautiful and remote Harrena Forest in the heart of Bale Mountains National Park, this rustic lodge is rural Ethiopia's finest. The spacious, thoughtfully designed rooms are all adorned with locally sourced furnishings to reflect the Ethiopian culture and style. Each room has a wood burning stove, providing a warm atmosphere to your stay. The windows in the thatched dining rooms offer amazing sweeping views over the mountain range below and each room has its own deck for viewing wildlife.
Much of the lodge's appeal lies in its location. Nestled into the hillside so as to minimise the visual effect on the area, the property offers unique access to Bale Mountains National Park and its 1,367 square miles of mountains, forests, and plateaus. No stay at the lodge is complete without a trip to Sanetti Plateau, where you'll be able to see the endemic Ethiopian wolf.
A favourite for nature lovers, Bale Mountain Lodge gives the feeling of being on top of the world, and is a great base from which to embark on a guided walks through the park.
The rooms are large and stylish and have comfortable Menyetta beds, en-suite bathrooms and each room has its own wood-burning stove as the nights can be rather cold. The treehouse room is raised and gives glorious views of the forest below. The main dining, lounge and bar area are in a large thatched hut with enormous rounded windows designed to allow guests the views possible of the enchanting forests surrounding the property.
The lodge is in a perfect location for day excursions to explore Bale Mountains National Park. Staff will help you make the most of your time in the mountains, whether it's exploring the stunning Harenna Forest on foot, a short drive to the Sanetti Plateau, or horse riding around the park which can be arranged.
