Sanctuary Puku Ridge Camp

Sanctuary Puku Ridge Camp lies nestled in a remote game rich area of South Luangwa National Park. This traditional tented camp has a very intimate atmosphere combining an authentic safari experience under canvas with panoramic views over the  abundant floodplain below. Each of the seven oversized tents has picture windows and a private decked balcony.

Our Thoughts

A tented camp which offers game drives and bush walks, as well as game viewing from one of the private viewing decks. Walking safaris in Africa were first offered in Zambia and the tradition of excellent guiding is continued by Puku Ridge’s qualified rangers.

Illuminated pathways connect the tents to the main bar and lounge. The communal area is spacious, airy and completely open-fronted, offering magnificent views of the surrounds from comfortable sofas and beside a log-fire on cooler days. Unwind after a thrilling game drive and watch the spectacular coral-gold fireworks unfold as the African sun sinks below the horizon, while you sip on a sundowner from the bar. The charming bar was created utilising a mix of local material, bamboo and contemporary chrome barstools.  Retreat to the private terrace below the main lounge and recline on the cane love-seat, beside a rock plunge pool and marvel at panoramic views over the plains and floodlit waterholes. Be captivated by the big-eyed bush babies in the trees and the variety of antelope that come to relieve their thirst.

Share safari tales with fellow travellers while enjoying a moon-and-starlit meal, although the glamorous dining area complete with chandeliers and a log-fire is also a lovely space to enjoy a hearty meal. If you prefer something more intimate, dinner may be served on your private deck as you are serenaded by the African wilderness. A wide range of mouth-watering cuisine is served at Puku Ridge blending local ingredients with international flavours, and mealtimes are enhanced by attentive service and the beautiful surroundings.

Each of the seven safari tents has picture windows and its own viewing deck overlooking the plains where game amble across for a drink of water. Generous and comfortable, each tent has an en suite bathroom with bath tub and shower, as well as an outdoor shower shaded by forest, all stocked with environmentally friendly products for your pure indulgence. Watch the sun rise from your double bed, elephants bathing from the comfort of your bath tub, perhaps even wild dogs making their way across the plains in pursuit of prey from your private viewing deck.

Game drives, Walking safaris. Guided walks & Night drives. Wildlife to be seen includes elephant, hippo, lion, wild dog, buffalo and a wide variety of antelope in addition  to endemic species such as the Thornicroft’s giraffe. This is an excellent area for spotting leopards.

Children 9 years and over are welcome.
