Itinerary Overview

This classic self-drive tour features the very best of South Africa, where the emphasis is on style and grandeur, and on enjoying some of the finest experiences available. Safari exclusively in the Greater Kruger National Park, before jetting down to Cape Town to spend time in one of the city’s chicest boltholes. Journey into the wondrous winelands to stay in picturesque Franschhoek and then zoom along the famed Garden Route to fashionable Plettenberg Bay. Finish alongside the beach in arguably the country’s finest property – the Oyster Box, a real Grande Dame of a hotel.

Depart London on the direct overnight flight to Johannesburg.


Days 2-3The Last Word Kitara

The Last Word Kitara

Connect with the onward flight to Hoedspruit and on arrival transfer to stay for two nights on full board basis, including safari activities, at the Last Word Kitara.

Safari in style at the intimate Kitara, where the six chic suites come complete with outdoor showers, private patios and complimentary minibars. Adjacent and open to the Kruger, this camp has a viewing deck, swimming pool, bar and boma area all overlooking the the Klaserie River, and it offers twice-daily game drives and guided walks in search of the Big Five.


Days 4-6Kensington Place

Kensington Place

Transfer to Hoedspruit and depart on the direct flight to Cape Town. On arrival collect hire car and drive into Cape Town to stay for three nights on bed & breakfast basis at Kensington Place.

A stunning boutique hotel on the lower slopes of Table Mountain, Kensington Place is often imitated but never bettered. Each of the nine exquisite and individually-styled bedrooms has its own terrace or balcony, and the hotel’s artworks sit perfectly alongside the tended garden, swimming pool, personalised service and a breakfast which is served until noon.


Days 7-8Leeu House

Leeu House

Drive onward to Franschhoek to stay for two nights on bed & breakfast basis at Leeu House.

Located right on Franschhoek’s pretty main street, this stylish hotel has just twelve rooms, each classic in their design but with mod con's including underfloor heating, Nespresso coffee machine and complimentary mini bar. A traditional Cape Dutch farm building housing the innovative restaurant is the focal point, but there are also beautifully landscaped gardens and a heated swimming pool.


Days 9-10Plettenberg Hotel

Plettenberg Hotel

Continue to Plettenberg Bay to stay for two nights on bed & breakfast basis at the Plettenberg Hotel.

On a rocky headland with magnificent views of the bay, the five-star Plettenberg offers some of the finest accommodation found anywhere on the Garden Route. The pool area overlooking the ocean is a great place to relax after a day spent exploring the surroundings, whilst guests should be sure to enjoy dinner in the Seafood Restaurant – one of the area’s finest.


Days 11-13Oyster Box

Oyster Box

Return hire car at George airport and depart on the direct flight to Durban, and on arrival transfer to stay for three nights on bed & breakfast basis at the Oyster Box Hotel.

Perched right above the beach on the edge of the Indian Ocean, this the archetypal luxury seaside hotel. Beautifully designed with wonderful interior features, there is a selection of bars and restaurants, (the daily curry buffet is exceptional), as well as a spa, stunning swimming pool, gym, private cinema, children’s club and a wide range of room types.


Day 14Departure


Transfer to Durban airport and depart on the flight to Johannesburg, connecting with the direct overnight flight to the UK.
