Shipwreck Lodge

Overview

Located in the far north-west corner of Namibia, Shipwreck Lodge is located on the desolate and world-renowned Skeleton Coast, and is the only accommodation for many miles around. Over 1000 shipwrecks scatter the treacherous and remote coastline, which is littered with the bleached bones and carcasses of animals and has been dubbed The Gates of Hell, yet the lodge still manages to offer luxurious accommodation, unparalleled service and a WiFi signal!

Wildlife still manages to flourish in this harsh environment, having learnt to survive in these desolate conditions, with guests able to see desert-adapted lion, elephant, hyena, jackals and gemsbok. The activities on offer are as exciting as the accommodation – nature drives and walks are complemented by high-adrenaline quad bike rides and sandboarding down the dunes.

The guest cabins really are one-of-a-kind, resembling as they do the stranded ships that litter the shores, with broken spars stretching upwards and the wooden buildings appearing to be partially buried by the surrounding sands. Inside, the interiors have been designed by local designers and craftspeople, with hand-crafted furniture and exquisite final touches.

The main lodge is home to a welcoming lounge, a viewing deck which is the perfect place for an early morning cuppa or sunset cocktail, and the restaurant & dining area, where the wonderful cuisine and offerings truly belie the property’s remote location. Shipwreck Lodge’s footprint is also as light as it can be, with solar power generated and water sourced from its own borehole.

Highlights

Our Thoughts

An extraordinary hotel in an extraordinary location, Shipwreck Lodge is the perfect base from which to explore the remarkable Skeleton Coast. Go completely off-grid here – there is no mobile signal – and just sit back and take in the great outdoors. The views are stunning, the night skies are legendary, and at the end of each day you can retire to your unique accommodation. For added oomph, fly into the lodge and enjoy a scenic safari from the air.

The stylish and uniquely-designed rooms are spaciously spread out along the sand dunes looking out towards the ocean, and are linked to the main lodge by wooden walkways and sand paths.

There are 8 standard cabins each sleeping two people, and 2 family units which accommodate four guests.

Luxurious furnished, the décor is reminiscent of a ship's cabin, with each room boasting a spacious bathroom, cosy fireplace and private viewing deck.
