Governors' Camp

Overview

Old-style charm fused with 21st-century creature comforts in the heart of East Africa’s prime wildlife area.

Originally built for the exclusive use of Kenya’s colonial governors, it still offers one of the best classic safari experiences anywhere. Set along the Mara River, it provides extraordinary sightings of hippo & crocodile and fantastic bird-watching.

The 37 luxury tents each have an en suite bathroom and private verandah, with one of the greatest shows on earth right on their doorstep. Everything is under canvas, all tents have en suite bathrooms with hot and cold running water and flushing toilets. There is a bar tent with deck overlooking the Mara River and dining tent with views over the plains.

Governors Camp has just been awarded a Silver Eco Rating from Eco-Tourism Kenya due to their sustainable tourism practices in place in camp.

Highlights

Our Thoughts

One of the original and still one of the best authentic tented safari lodges in the Masai Mara. Great location for game-viewing and close to the launch site for the wonderful early morning balloon rides. The lodge also operates its own aircraft to Mfangano Island on Lake Victoria, which makes for an unusual twin centre trip.
