Three Trees at Spioenkop

Overview

A short drive off the main road through the rolling hills you find Three Trees and what a wonderful place to stay this is. The main homestead is very welcoming, with a huge open lounge and dining area with a fireplace in the middle, very welcoming in the winter! The owners, Simon and Cheryl, have made Three Trees their family home and a warm, friendly atmosphere prevails because of this. The rooms are set throughout the gardens and are spacious, comfortable individual cottages, with corrugated tin rooves to give them a charming twist. They all command stunning views down to the Spioenkop Game Reserve and if you look hard enough, you may be able to see a Rhino wondering through. Activities here are varied, with Simon guiding trips to Spioenkop itself, as well as taking you on guided walks, game drives and mountain biking trips. A nearby ballooning base has added a new way to see this stunning area. Whether you have a keen interest in the battles of the Boer War, just a passing interest or are simply looking for a great base to explore the area, Three Trees is a superb option.

Highlights

Our Thoughts

A wonderfully traditional lodge overlooking the Spioenkop Game Reserve and a great base for exploring the Boer War Battlefields. The main part of the lodge is a beautiful open lounge and dining area with a roaring fire in winter and a lovely verandah for summer. With communal dining and activities, there is a really friendly atmosphere in this family run lodge. Unfussy and uncluttered, this really is a wonderful place to stay.

The dining room is in the main lodge, with all meals served communally, although private dining can be arranged if required. Meals are comforting, home cooked and plentiful and a real affair at Three Trees, with guests sharing their stories of the day's adventures.

A walk down through the gardens will lead you to the 6 individual cottages, all with stunning views down to the Spioenkop Nature Reserve. The rooms are spacious and comfortable and, whilst they lack amenities such as minibars, are very welcoming and popular with guests. Small verandas are a lovely place to sit with a coffee and the corrugated rooves add a touch of colonial charm to them.
