It has been a few years since I last visited the Vineyard Hotel, so on my recent trip to Cape Town I thought it would be useful if I dropped by and re-familiarised myself with this 4-star hotel.
Located in Cape Town’s leafy southern suburbs, it has always been known for its superior service levels and expansive gardens, and so I was pleased to see the gardens in full bloom and the staff as welcoming as ever when I arrived. The guest rooms, which are always very competitively priced, are bright and spacious, with views over the gardens or the slopes of Table Mountain, and they also offer very attractive 2 and 3-bedroom apartments which are perfect for families or small groups.
There is a choice of restaurants serving meals throughout the day, with a superb breakfast & lunch served in the Long Café, and dinner in Morii, their Middle Eastern-inspired restaurant. Morii is extremely popular with both guests and locals alike, so I was wise to have booked a table there in advance. Guests should also try to make time for the fabulous afternoon tea which is taken on the garden patio – a real treat.
Whilst many visitors to Cape Town may spend most of their time away from their hotel sightseeing and exploring everything that the area has to offer, anyone staying at the Vineyard Hotel and wanting a little downtime will be very well catered for - the gardens are an undoubted highlight, (I joined a guided walk through the 8 acres and spotted the resident tortoises along the way), and the hotel also boasts South Africa’s only Angsana Spa, as well as outdoor and indoor pools, and a fitness centre.
My expectations of this 4-star property were certainly exceeded - I left feeling that the hotel really should be in the 5-star bracket, and I would have no hesitation in recommending it to any prospective guest.
