The best months for viewing wildlife in Kenya are during the Dry season from late June to October. For the best chance of seeing the wildebeest migration in the Masai Mara, the time to visit is between August and October when the wildebeest move back to the Serengeti in Tanzania. The wildlife viewing throughout Kenya is good all year-round, however, it can differ from park to park.  

June To October

Dry Season

• Animals are easier to spot due to the fact they are concentrated around waterholes and rivers where there is less vegetation
• Mosquitoes are on the decline at this time as there is little to no rain; skies are clear and most days are sunny
• July to October are the ultimate months to see the wildebeest migration 
• Remember it gets very busy and crowded in the most popular parks

November To May

Wet Season

• Late January to February is the time to see newborn animals
• The scenery is green and beautiful; it's low season, meaning potentially lower rates and less crowded parks
• Although wildlife is easier to spot in the Dry season, you'll still see plenty 
• Migratory birds are present, and bird watching is at its best
• Except for March, April and May, rains are mostly short afternoon showers and are unlikely to have a negative impact on your trip
• March to May is the peak of the Wet season so rain can be continuous

The Masai Mara offers great wildlife viewing throughout the year. In the highest peak of the rainy season, the majority of parks can have issues with regards to heat, humidity and continuous rain and as a result, some lodges tend to close. The dry months offer an abundance of quality wildlife throughout Kenya.
