South Africa is a destination which offers a truly diverse range of experiences.
Perhaps best known for the iconic Table Mountain and Kruger National Park, the country is also home to an array superb experiences, from taking a tour through its world-class winelands, or enjoying a whale-watching trip, to witnessing the country's magnificent wildflower displays.
To help you plan your holiday to South Africa, our Africa expert Simon has put together a short guide on everything you need to know about travelling to South Africa post-lockdown.
South Africa has reopened its borders with flights operating to and from the international airports at Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban, although direct flights between South Africa and the UK are currently suspended. All passengers must have a negative PCR test taken not more than 72 hours before departure.
As long as travellers have a valid negative PCR test result and do not have symptoms on arrival they will be able to continue with their trip as planned.
There are no such restrictions but tourists are expected to follow social distancing and hygiene measures. If a visitor develops symptoms they will need to quarantine at their own expense.
The hospitality sector has devised and implemented stringent health and hygiene protocols in line with international standards to mitigate any risk. The Travel Safe-Eat Safe mobile app ensures the information of guests and participating hospitality establishments are logged electronically.
For travellers who have been to South Africa in the previous 10 days entry to the UK is not permitted except for British and Irish passport holders, long term visa holders and permanent residents, all of whom will be required to self-isolate.
