South Africa is a destination which offers a truly diverse range of experiences.
Perhaps best known for the iconic Table Mountain and Kruger National Park, the country is also home to an array superb experiences, from taking a tour through its world-class winelands, or enjoying a whale-watching trip, to witnessing the country's magnificent wildflower displays.
To help you plan your holiday to South Africa, our Africa expert Simon has put together a short guide on everything you need to know about travelling to South Africa post-lockdown.
South Africa is planning to re-open its borders on 01st October, with entry allowed via the international airports at Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban and a limited number of land borders. Travellers coming from countries with high infection rates may be prevented from entering South Africa. All passengers must have a negative PCR result not older than 72 hours before boarding to be allowed entry into South Africa. Travellers will be screened on arrival and anyone with symptoms will be required to take a Covid test.
Those without a negative Covid certificate or those with symptoms on arrival who have a positive test will face mandatory quarantine at their own cost.
There are no such restrictions but tourists are expected to follow social distancing and hygiene measures and comply with the testing rules outlined above. Travellers will be asked to download the Covid Alert South Africa mobile app.
The hospitality sector has devised and implemented stringent health and hygiene protocols in line with international standards to mitigate any risk. The Travel Safe-Eat Safe mobile app ensures the information of guests and participating hospitality establishments are logged electronically.
Yes, you will currently need to quarantine for 14 days once you return home.
