Okahirongo Elephant Lodge

Overview

In the north west of Namibia the Purros Conservancy is a rugged piece of true wilderness. The terracotta buildings of Okahirongo Elephant Lodge enjoy fantastic views of the green Hoarusib riverbed and the distant Purros mountains.

Taking influence from the rich ochre and sand of the surrounding area and decorated and furnished with African designs and carved wood the lodge is a stylish retreat. The tranquillity of the area can be enjoyed from your room's gazebo or the main lodge's open sided lounges and swimming pool while the cuisine is a superb Italian-Namibian fusion.

Game drives reveal some the wildlife that survive in these harsh conditions including desert elephant, giraffe, oryx and springbok while visits to a local Himba village are also possible.

Whether you fly in to the nearby airstrip or take an adventurous drive by 4x4, the peace, tranquillity and sense of wilderness that is experienced at Okahirongo Elephant Lodge is sure to impress.

Our Thoughts

A stylish base from which to explore this remote area of desert wildlife and Himba tribes.

The excellent food at Okahirongo uses top quality ingredients, some of which come from the lodge's organic garden, and is influenced by the Italian owners' heritage.

The seven spacious cottages are decorated and furnished using the hues of ochre and sand of the local area and feature a large separate bathroom with a bathtub with a view, indoor and outdoor showers and a private gazebo with day bed for whiling away the afternoon.

The Presidential Suite is a private two bedroomed villa with a large lounge and two gazebos with day beds. Natural and African in style this villa is a wonderful space for those looking for more privacy.
