The Tides Lodge & Villa

Overview

The Tides Lodge is set on a secluded beach on the Tanzanian mainland yet is easily accessible from the country's main safari parks. With no other hotels or lodges nearby guests can enjoy miles of deserted sand, free of hawkers and are able to swim all day as, unlike much of Zanzibar, the tide does not fluctuate much.

The lodge is very laid back and informal with a relaxed bar and restaurant and comfortable, bright cottages set just back from the beach. For extra privacy book the two storey Upepo Suite or the 6 bedroom villa.

If you can drag yourself away from the palm tree lined beach and the secluded swimming pool, the activities on offer include snorkelling and diving, fishing, kayaking and culture and history in the form of village walks and tours of the nearby town of Pangani.

Highlights

Our Thoughts

After all the excitement of seeing lions, elephants and the African wild animals, this quiet stretch of beach near Pangani offers the perfect getaway from the crowds and activity of safari travel.

  • Swimming pool
  • Beach bar
  • Restaurant
  • Shop
  • Activity base

The food at Tides is wonderfully fresh with fish and seafood sourced from local fishermen, herbs and salads from the lodge's own garden and freshly baked bread.

The seven thatched beach cottages are set among palm trees just 10 metres from the beach with a simple but bright style and wooden shutters to let the breeze through.  A private verandah looks out to the sea and there is a private sunbathing area.  The two bedroom Hibiscus Family House is also just metres from the beach and  features a central living area and dining table.

The striking Upepo Suite is a two storey house set in a lush garden about 30 metres from the beach offering extra privacy. The lounge and bathroom are found downstairs and the upstairs bedroom opens onto a balcony.

New for 2016 the Villa has six air conditioned, ensuite  bedrooms with its own swimming pool and private chef.

  • Snorkelling
  • Fishing
  • Dhow sailing
  • Diving
  • Turtle hatching (seasonal)
  • Kayaking
  • Cycle hire
  • Village walk
  • Historical walking tour of Pangani

Children aged 6 and older are welcome.  The Hibiscus Family House has two large bedrooms with a private verandah and dining area.  New for 2016 is a 6 bedroom villa complete with its own pool and staff making the ideal base for a large family.
