Tanzania re-opens to tourism

With the decrease of COVID-19 cases across the country, the United Republic of Tanzania has announced that tourism will restart in Tanzania from 18 May 2020. A summary of the re-opening details and the guidelines that will be practised to ensure the safety of international tourists are given below.

• International commercial flight operations have been resumed from 18 May 2020
• All passengers, i.e. returning residents or foreign nationals will undergo enhanced screening for COVID-19 infection while leaving or entering Tanzania
• Passengers would also need to fill out a travellers surveillance form on arrival
• There will be no 14 days of mandatory quarantine
• Infection prevention  and control measures are still to be followed strictly; social distancing, hand hygiene, wearing masks all remain mandatory
• All international travellers will have to dispose of their masks after use during travel on arrival at designated waste collection containers
• All airports will have mandatory sanitizers installed at multiple locations
• All airport staff and those engaged in tourism will be regularly monitored to ensure they are not infected
• All air operators will provide advance passenger information on arrivals and departures to allow the Points of Entry Authorities to prevent possible high-risk passengers

The Ministry of Tourism and Natural Resources will ensure that the health of Tanzanians is safe and a priority. Tourists entering Tanzania will be COVID-19 free. Every effort possible will be done to keep them safe. Measures to protect them are in line with the Ministry of Health Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children (MoHCDEC) and the World Health Organization (WHO)
