With so many beautiful places dotted all over the world, it can be hard to decide which dreamy destination to choose for your honeymoon. Understandably, you want it to be the holiday of a lifetime, full of one of a kind memories that you can cherish forever.
So, when deciding on where to go for your honeymoon, you need to consider places that neither of you have travelled to before. Forget looking at run of the mill holiday destinations and look no further than Mozambique, a country renowned for the magnificence of its white sand and pristine beaches which edge the Indian Ocean. You’ll be in for a truly unique holiday where you can make magical memories as a couple to cherish forever.
1. A night under the stars
Nkwichi Lodge offers a night at the Lake of Stars bed, which is set up either on a deserted beach, private rock island, or high viewpoint.
This ultimate romantic experience starts off with a short canoe ride along the beach front at the lodge to a more private beach just a small distance away. When you arrive at your destination, you are greeted by a beautifully-laid four-poster bed covered by a transparent white net and spread with pillows. A delicious three-course dinner is served before you retire to your bed for the night.
Nkwichi ensures that couples are left alone to enjoy each other’s company and nature, and guests awaken to panoramic views of the lake before they canoe themselves back to Nkwichi for breakfast.
2. A Dhow Cruise
A dhow cruise to Santa Maria offered by Machangulo Beach Lodge gives couples the chance to explore the cultural village.
This romantic cruise is part of a special five-night honeymoon package that also includes a honeymoon basket with Moet & Chandon Champagne, couples gift and snacks, and a private dinner on your room’s patio or on the beach. Guests can also enjoy a very romantic sundowner cruise.
3. A romantic dinner on a secluded beach
At Nkwichi Lodge, guests are able to choose their own location for dinner – either the beach adjacent to the lake in the rocky cove next to the platform, or in the complete isolation of their chalet veranda or private beach. The culinary experience includes fish served fresh from the lake and a variety of vegetables, salads and fruit from the Nkwichi organic farm.
The private dinner is, where possible, followed by marshmallow toasting round an open fire.
4. Star bath by candlelight with a bottle of champagne
At Nkwichi Lodge, couples can enjoy an outdoor bath lit by candles and paraffin lanterns.
The bath is moulded into primordial rocks. Guests are provided with champagne glasses accompanied by a chilled bottle of champagne to be enjoyed while gazing at the stars.
5. Picnic under a 2000-year-old baobab
Nkwichi Lodge also offers a picnic table set for lunch under a baobab tree. Set up with cushions and a white tablecloth, a pre-arranged lunch of mainly organic produce (mostly from the Nkwichi community farm) is served.
Couples can enjoy their meal with the sound of the Lake Malawi waves and the call of the Fish Eagle from a nearby forest.
