One of the team in our Cape Town office has just returned from a short trip along South Africa’s breathtakingly beautiful Garden Route. Here are their thoughts on a few of the places they stayed at.
Blackwaters River Lodge
A perfect location on the Garden Route and also great for both families and couples, the Blackwaters River Lodge is tucked away in a beautiful valley surrounded by indigenous forest and is conveniently located for exploring the major attraction in the area such as whale and dolphin watching. The lodge is owner managed and the staff are extremely helpful and always smiling. The property has seventeen beautiful, individually decorated luxury rooms. Each has an en-suite bathroom and patio or wooden deck. Five river view rooms overlook the Goukamma River. Five forest view rooms overlook the forest and the pool area. Seven standard garden view rooms overlook the golf course and the gardens. Onsite amenities include a restaurant, 9-hole par 3 Golf Course, a swimming pool which overlooks the Goukamma River and a spa which offers basic beauty treatments. A wide variety of activities are available to guests such as canoeing, forest hiking, cycling and stand-up paddling.
St James of Knysna
Perfect for couples, St James of Knysna is a five-star hotel located on the banks of the Knysna Lagoon and boasts a picturesque view of the Knysna Heads. The hotel has beautiful, serene gardens, a Koi pond, two swimming pools and an on-site restaurant which offers a variety of locally sourced dishes and wines. Accommodation consists of fifteen luxurious, spacious, individually decorated suites. The Manor House has five suites consisting of two lagoon facing suites which is the presidential suite – George Rex and the superior suite - Lady Anne and three garden facing suites which consists of two deluxe suites and one standard room. The Courtyard has ten suites consisting of seven lagoon facing suites which are three deluxe suites and four superior suites and three garden facing suites consisting of two junior suites and one standard room.
De Denne Country Guest House
De Denne is a four-star country guest house situated on a working ostrich farm with the most beautiful views of the Swartberg mountain range and is perfect for those looking for some peace and quiet. Staff are very friendly and accommodating and the guest house is decorated with old furniture and antiques and has a cozy lounge where guests are welcomed and checked in. Accommodation comprises of fourteen suites consisting of four deluxe suites, five family suites, four garden suites and one standard suite. Each suite is individually decorated. Onsite amenities include a swimming pool and restaurant serving very good food.
