The best months for viewing wildlife in Botswana are during the Dry season from May to September. The Okavango Delta, Moremi and Chobe are Botswana's most popular parks. For visiting the Okavango, it is best to travel outside of June to October as at this time it is flooded. Wildlife viewing is good year-round, but this can differ for some parks.  

May To September

Dry Season

• Animals are easier to spot due to the fact they are concentrated around waterholes and rivers where there is less vegetation 
• Mosquitoes are on the decline at this time as there is little to no rain; skies are clear and most days are sunny
• Even though most tourists visit during the Dry season, the parks still don't feel crowded, except for the busy Chobe riverfront area
• Mornings and nights get cold; we recommend to bring warm clothing for morning game drives in open vehicles during the months of June, July and August

November To April

Wet Season

• The scenery is green and beautiful; it's low season, meaning potentially lower rates and less crowded parks
• Although wildlife is easier to spot in the Dry season, you'll still see plenty and most northern circuit parks offer good wildlife viewing all year round
• Migratory birds are present, and bird watching is at its best
• Except for January and February, rains are mostly short afternoon showers and are unlikely to have a negative impact on your trip
• It gets very hot between October and November
• Some lodges and camps close down during part of the Wet season
  
  

Best time to go to Botswana by major park

Moremi, Okavango and Chobe offer good wildlife viewing throughout the year. The best months being during the dry season as they are easier to spot and the Okavango is flooded. The other, drier parks are best to visit during, or just after, the Wet season when fresh grasses attract wildlife and there are many newborns and migratory birds.
