Whether it's the design, level of comfort, excellent customer service or the delicious cuisine, there are many things which make a stay at a hotel or lodge special, but we believe that true satisfaction comes when you're lucky enough to have a room with a spectacular view. With that in mind, we've compiled a list of some of our favourite properties across Africa which offer a room with a view.
&Beyond’s Ngorongoro Crater Lodge is situated on the edge of the legendary crater rim, offering amazing views looking down onto the crater floor and the vast array of wildlife that call it home, most notably the Big Five. The lodge’s design really maximises the breath-taking views, each room comes with a viewing deck to stand out on and enjoy the views, and the bedrooms, baths and even toilets all offer panoramic vistas of the wilderness below. As this property offers unmatched views of one of Tanzania’s must-see destinations, it tends to get booked up well in advance so early booking is highly recommended.
An award-winning eco resort, Tortilis is set within the Amboseli National Park in a location only dreams are made of. On a clear day, you’ll be able to enjoy marvellous views of the iconic Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s largest mountain from any of the camp’s 16 tents which are all in a prime position to see the snow-capped peak of the mountain. For particularly magnificent views, we recommend staying in the Private House or Family Tent which are located slightly away from the main camp upon a hill.
The elegant and luxurious Marine Hotel in Hermanus is in a prime location for calming sea views, perched on a cliff overlooking the beautiful Walker Bay. The hotel takes advantage of its position in one of South Africa’s premier whale watching spots, offering amazing land-based whale watching platforms and during peak viewing season you may even be lucky enough to spot pods of whales and dolphins from the comfort of your Sea View suite which guarantees a view of the bay.
Fish River Lodge is the only lodge situated directly on the Fish River Canyon and offers the chance to gain a truly unique perspective of the sheer scale of the canyon. The 20 chalets at Fish River are perched on the edge of the canyon, and to guarantee you a spectacular view at all times during your stay, the rooms are equipped with floor to ceiling glass doors. The spectacular views don’t end when the sun goes down, the rooms also have all-round ceiling windows meaning you’ll have a perfect view of the starry night sky as you peacefully fall asleep.
Gorges Lodge boasts a prime position right on the edge of the Batoka Gorge, 250 metres above the mighty Zambezi River, fourth-longest river in Africa. The lodge is comprised of 10 comfortable stone and thatch chalets which have been ideally positioned to take advantage of the astonishing views over the gorge, which will be especially appreciated from your own private veranda.
